About the Author:

Terry L. Coats developed his love for railroading in Dresden, Tennessee where he became fascinated with Grandpa’s Road and the activity surrounding the local depot. He was one of the founders of the Nashville Chattanooga &St. Louis Railway Preservation Society in 2001 and currently serves as the society’s president.

Over the past five years, he has travelled many miles and visited many archives, libraries, and historical centers to document the history and architecture of all the NC&St.L Railway’s remaining depots, terminals, and structures.


A graduate of Middle Tennessee State University with a degree in art education, Terry previously served more than thirty years as an officer with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, retiring
in 2003.

An authority on the history and architecture of the depots and terminals of the NC&St.L, Terry is available for lectures and to speak to community and historical organizations.
